This is a letter I have sent out to my friends and family here in Oregon..Please check to see if your state is also looking at plans here

Hello
I usually do not send out things like this but this one is really important to me about health care ..I am so sad watching what my dad and his wife are going through with all their medical bills and prescriptions costs he just paid $1400.00 For 4 prescriptions last week at wal mart and he has insurance !!
All it would take is a serious illness to bring any one of us down and its not right ...this should not be happening in the USA..
Randy and I have paid our fair share of medical bills... The past 12 years the kids lost their SSI and state medical cards when we bought the cabin and then we had the hospital bills for losing Wyatt, Tegan and Taylor, along with my high risk pregnancy with Rylan and now the fact that he will probably need sugery at some point on his bladder well, you get the point its been pretty non stop medical bills for us not to mention the monthly bills for prescription medicine for Randy and Rylan (haha nothing for me right now LOL)
so I guess it hits closer to home for me than most people but it could change for anyone at anytime..
I watched the move SICKO last night and I would suggest everyone watch the movie...... I also watched a show on PBS called frontline sick around the world and he said basically the same thing as Michael Moore and also went to see how health care works around the world ... These two shows have been real eye openers for me and how health care could work and not the way it is now........
The CEOs of insurance and drug company's make millions of dollars a year off the backs of hard working people ... Please please read up and watch the shows about this problem ( I watched the frontline show on netflix live, not sure where else it could be seen maybe youtube)

LaDawn,
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.
We've paid our fair share of medical bills as well and huge insurance payments, however one hospital stay wipes out all those insurance payments. My hospital stay last April was more than what we've paid in 18 years of constant insurance payments. Since we pay extra for the best insurance plan offered by Skanska, we were only responsible for less than $500 of it, and most of that was for the abulance ride.
Having worked in the healthcare industry I can tell you the universal health care is not the answer. Making all insurances more affordable where you have a choice is. I know too many that don't carry health insurance because they would rather have a fancy vehicle than make health insurance payments.
We may not be ranked as high in some of those statistics but ask any Canadian if they had a choice between their Universal health care where they wait for months to see a specialist or our more expensive health care system and the majority will use our system every time.
I have a friend that immigrated here from The United Kingdom. She is a NICU nurse and will tell you that the health care system is far better here than the universal care in England.
Universal Healthcare is one thing I do not want to see here in the states.
Chele
I don't think your seeing the big picture... I am sure that there are some problems with universal health care, but if its done right its still could be as good and I think better that what it is right now...
Sure our insurance is working out for us now but I see what is happening to my dad and his wife he has always worked and had insurance and she worked in the hospital field for years... That's whats so scary that if this can happen to them, it can happen to anybody, well unless you retire from the government then your guaranteed insurance for life, which is kind of like universal heath care but just for a select few ..I am going to do more research on this and see what I can find out I do know one thing if Randy was to get really sick and laid off and loose his job.. we could loose everything because of chronic health issues and we could not just go and get privet insurance, no private company would insure us and this is a big problem with the insurance company's, not everyone can get it ..
LaDawn,
I see the big picture. I don't trust our FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to do ANYTHING RIGHT. The last bail out plan is a recent example.
I definitely don't want something as important as my families health in their hands.
I know the system needs to be addressed/change and that everyone should be able to afford some level of average healthcare. However, putting it in the hands of our government is the last thing I want and I will do everything in my power to stop it. Why do so many people need supplemental insurance that have medicare? The government can't get Medicare and Medicaid under control what makes anyone think they can do a better job with a bigger healthcare plan?
They can legislate the insurance companies is some way to make it work. However, that won't happen as long as the LOBBYING is dumping significant funds into our congressmen and congresswoman's pocket to not do anything.
""However, that won't happen as long as the LOBBYING is dumping significant funds into our congressmen and congresswoman's pocket to not do anything.""
This is a huge huge HUGE issue I agree..It just sucks that insurance company's are in it for the money, not for the health of the people and the way ity is now so is the congress...I understand that you don't trust the government I don't either and everything needs to be changed. Did you watch SICKO if not you have to at least watch it and see how screwed up things are and its not just that movie it easy to see the things he shows its all around us ...
No, I haven't seen Sicko nor do I plan to. I made the mistake of watching his 911 documentary and vowed never again to watch anything he was associated with or believe anything he had to say. THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY.
You have to stand up for the things YOU believe in and if Universal Healthcare is one of those things then do what you have to do.
Bottomline, EVERYONE, needs to begin to get involved in all facets and all levels of politics and any elected position. We all have to do our own research and be smart about the officials we want elected to public office. The days of believing the news media are over because they print more lies than truth. Even if we don't all agree on how the issues should be solved, we are still making noise about it and the ones with the powers to make change can no longer ignore it.
